The 2 Dams

We found our hostel in Rotterdam fairy easily that night and dormed in a relatively empty 50-bed dorm room. The 'included breakfast' the day was something else; a bit of white bread, a huge bowl of jam, some butter, and black coffee. It reminded us of the included breakfasts in SE Asian hostels! Oh they also had peanut butter and sprinkles, which were awesome on toast! We took the train to Amsterdam in the morning with plans to hit up the Anne Frank House. On the way we began visiting with an older couple on the train from the States who happened to be going on the same cruise as us leaving from Rotterdam the next day! Once in Amsterdam we found the Anne
Frank House (it was really hard...) and entered the 2 hour line because we missed the boat on early tickets online. Walking through Amsterdam was a lot of fun as there were countless canals all around the city, full of boats meandering through the water, with dozes of bridges all over. And everywhere you looked was bikes and bikes and bikes! Countless riding by, and every piece of fence, gate, and building was covered in bikes locked up to everything. Also because I have zero patience, we decided it was a good idea for Milessa to hold down our spot in line while I found a grocery store for some snacks and lunch. I'd found the way to Milessa's heart and bought her some yummy chocolate-filled croissants! Our tour through the Anne Frank house was excellent and an incredible way to better understand what people went through so long ago and how real the war was. Afterwards we walked along the canals stopping in books stores and other shops, looking for last minute clothing we needed. We also had some Dutch pancakes with ice cream and chocolate- o my goodness it was amazing! We walked by the floating flower market (who knew the Dutch are also good at growing flowers- what aren't they good at?) on our way to the Kilo Shop, where you
bought clothes based on weight. They also had a great 2nd Hand market area and that was lots of fun to go through. On our way back to the train station, we managed to avoid to Red Light District and all of the many 'Cafes', for those that know what those are. We also got Fritas with currysauce for one last time- for real this time. Also, we snapped a couple #bundaymonday pics :) We boarded the train and headed back to Rotterdam for our last night in Europse! Wow was it ever enjoyable... ok for anyone that snores, knows what snoring sounds like, has heard snoring before, lives with a snorer, thinks they know the worst snorer ever: you have no idea what snoring is like until you've slept next to the same guy we did. I woke up at 3 am to sound of someone dying. At least I'm pretty sure he was. But then a couple seconds later, he died again. Ok, it was a snore, I think. He had that thing (sorry to anyone else who also has it) where he stops breathing while he slept (kind of, I think). Except in between breaths he would stop, make no noise, then suck in all the air in the room. It
sounded like he was sleeping on his back, his mouth right full of saliva, and was breathing through a tiny straw that started in the back of throat and just poked barely above the level of saliva so that when he breathed, it loudly sucked in air and saliva. Like using a wet-vac on a shag carpet drenched in milk and maybe some syrup. It was literally the loudest and grossest thing I've ever heard, only 10 feet away. He also make some lion/t-rex noises between everything else. After 20 minutes of trying to ignore it, I became sick to my stomach after hearing (and picturing) all of the saliva and snoring going on and woke up Milessa. I decided I had to leave and sleep in the common area on couches with lights on rather than listen anymore. A fitting end to our hostel-life before boarding the cruise the following morning!
